Smoothies & Juices

If you have a Vitamix or other good quality high speed blender, a Green Smoothie is filling and packed full of goodness! Start with a handful or two of greens and experiment with fruits you enjoy.

Beginner Green Smoothie:

1 to 2 handfuls of organic greens (try spinach, green or purple kale, swiss chard, and romaine lettuce)
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup of fresh or frozen organic berries, mango, pears, pineapple, peaches, or whatever fruit you have on hand
1/4 cup raw nuts (optional)
1 to 2 cups of water
1/2 cup ice

Blend until smooth. As you become more accustomed to the taste of blended greens, you may want to decrease the ratio of fruit to greens. Enjoy!

*If you don’t have a high speed blender, start by blending the water and greens first, then add fresh or frozen fruit and nuts, if using.

This will give you “the strength of 10 Grinches…plus two!”

2 handfuls baby spinach
1 handful dandelion greens
½ handful wheat grass, cut into small pieces
1 cup frozen pineapple
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 small frozen banana
1 medium orange, peeled
1 heaping tablespoon coconut oil
2-3 cups water

Blend and enjoy! Serves 3 to 4.

1 cup coconut water
1/2 cup young Thai coconut meat
1 1/2 cups fresh (or frozen) pineapple chunks
1 tablespoon Mila chia seeds

Open the Thai coconut and pour the water into a high speed blender. Scrape the meat out from inside the coconut. Add to blender with the remaining ingredients. Add about 1/2 cup of water and blend until smooth. Add ice if using fresh pineapple and blend. Enjoy!

Super Green Juice:

Every now and then, I like to give my body a vacation from solid food. A day long juice fast supercharges my body with micronutrients, vitamins and minerals. Here is one of my favorite green juices.

1 head romaine lettuce
1 cucumber
5 stalks kale
1 large handful baby spinach
1 bunch cilantro
1 bunch parsley
1 bunch mint
1 lime
pinch of sea salt

Wash all produce, peel lime, and process all ingredients through your juicer. Stir in salt and enjoy!
